1A1X1:Flight Engineer

They visually inspect aircraft and perform any in-flight duties. This includes monitoring equipment, such as the engines, control panels, indicators, and devices.

Military Duties:

Doing pre and post flight safety checks on their assigned aircraft Handling in-flight instrumentation, control, and warning system monitoring. Be involved in preflight engine startup and post-flight engine shutdown Helping ground maintenance personnel with any engine tests that need to be done Perform aircraft weight and balance calculations Controlling their assigned aircraft’s engines during a flight in a way that maximizes fuel efficiency To become a Jack-of-all-trades when performing flight operations at remote airfields Fill out the proper forms that are required to be done in conjunction with the above-mentioned tasks

Military Duties Translated:

Monitor aircraft systems, including engines and other critical flight systems. Diagnose and rectify or eliminate problems that may arise. Sets and adjusts engine power during take off, climb, cruise, go-arounds, or at any time the pilot flying requests a specific power setting to be set during the approach phase. Monitors and adjusts fuel, pressurization and air conditioning, hydraulic, electrics, ice and rain protection, oxygen, fire and overheat protection, and powered flying controls. Take on preflight and post flight inspections. Ensure that the weight and balance of the aircraft is correctly calculated to ensure the center of gravity is within limits. Cross check pilot selections. Exercise extensive mechanical and technical knowledge of aircraft systems and aircraft performance. Sit behind the co-pilot in the cockpit, facing sideways to operate a panel of switches, gauges and indicators. Monitor the forward instruments, pilot selections and adjust the thrust levers located on the center pedestal. Set the engine power.
